The teaching case

A short distal stricture.

A 2 cm left pelvic ureteral stricture after pelvic surgery. The upstream ureter is mildly dilated. The native intramural tunnel and orifice are spared.

CT urography or retrograde imaging defines the defect; MAG3 if function is in doubt. Reimplantation is a distal solution. Preserve healthy, vascularized ureter.

Mid or proximal disease has a different reconstruction menu: ureteroureterostomy, BMG or appendix onlay, or selected Boari / ileal reconstruction. Outside this specimen.
